A Devotion for August 29

But it is good for me to hold me fast by God, to put my trust in the Lord GOD, * and to speak of all thy works in the gates of the daughter of Sion. ~Psalm 73:28

The Psalmist this morning reminds us that our labor for the Lord can often seem lonely, discouraging, and frustrating. It can appear that we preach to and serve rocks, and nothing ever changes, or worse the wicked prosper and grow more corrupt. Negativity towards our situation can fester and make us grow weary losing sight of what is important.

Often our prayers can feel like the Psalmist listing off frustrations, pains, and anxieties. Looking over the fence and thinking that the grass is greener if only this or that changed. But is it?

The Psalmist ends with an important reminder – it is a good thing for me to hold fast to God, to put my trust in the Lord God. Holding fast is the greatest good; we are learning to trust in the Lord fully. Life may be lonely or discouraging or frustrating. I write these things, not as a

I want you to know that I write these things not as an eternal optimist, but as reminders to myself. If you are lonely or frustrated, I have been there. Persevere dear friends and carry on. It is good to hold fast to the Lord.
